Hobbs the Hatmaker

Deep in a quiet corner of the forest lives Hobbs the Hatmaker, a gnome known far and wide for two things: his magnificent gray beard and his unmistakable top hat. Hobbs has spent more years than anyone can remember working with the finest woods the forest has to offer. His sturdy body is made from warm maple, but his most prized possession is the tall purpleheart hat perched proudly above his beard. Legend has it that Hobbs made the hat himself from a small piece of purpleheart he discovered during one of his many travels. He loved the rich color and character of the wood so much that he decided it deserved to become something special. He's worn it ever since. For generations, woodland creatures have visited Hobbs' tiny workshop looking for something made just for them. He believes every piece of wood has a story hidden inside it—you simply have to take the time to find it. These days, Hobbs doesn't spend quite as many hours in the workshop. Instead, he's looking for a new place to call home, preferably somewhere he can sit comfortably, show off his favorite hat, and keep an eye on whatever projects might be happening nearby. And should you ever find a few mysterious wood shavings around his beard, don't worry. Hobbs may have retired, but a true hatmaker never completely stops making.

Oaksley the Old-Timer

Oaksley has been around longer than anyone can remember. Some say he was there when the first acorn fell in the old forest. Others say he simply tells that story because he enjoys watching the younger gnomes roll their eyes. Oaksley spends most of his days beneath the oldest oak tree he can find, his wooden top hat pulled low and his great gray beard blowing in the breeze. He’s the gnome everyone visits when they need advice—or when they just need someone to sit quietly with for a while. He believes good things shouldn't be rushed. Trees need time to grow, friendships need time to strengthen, and the best stories get better every time they're told. His favorite saying is: “Stand tall, stay rooted, and never hurry good work.” Oaksley may look serious, but there's a mischievous side hiding underneath that oak hat. OAKLEY HEARTWOOD

Deep in the oldest corner of the forest lives Oakley Heartwood, a tiny woodland keeper who has spent more years among the trees than anyone can remember. Oakley wears a towering oak hat, carved from the mighty trees he watches over. Legend says every tier of his hat represents another generation of the forest he has protected. His body is made from purpleheart, a rare wood said among the gnomes to belong only to those who are fiercely loyal, quietly brave, and always willing to lend a hand. And then there's his crooked little splatted maple nose. Oakley insists the dark lines running through it are actually a map of secret trails through the forest. Nobody has ever been able to prove him wrong. Most days, Oakley can be found sitting silently in a workshop, on a shelf, or near a window. But according to gnome lore, once everyone goes to bed, he checks the woodpile, straightens crooked projects, and occasionally hides a pencil or tape measure just to keep the humans humble.
